The Miftahur Rabbani Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren Miftahur Rabbani) in Batam was founded in 2011 by KH. Asep Ahmad Rabbany Hidayat (AA Rabbani) with the mission of shaping a generation that is intelligent, dignified, and firmly grounded in Islamic values.
The pesantren implements an integrated education system that combines formal schooling with Islamic boarding school education, supported by intensive learning of the Qur’an and classical Islamic texts (yellow books). Teaching and learning activities are guided by professional teachers and ustadz who are graduates of various reputable Islamic boarding schools and universities.
“It is time for us to develop and implement a quality, professional, balanced, and future-oriented education system based on faith (iman) and piety (taqwa),” said AA Rabbani, Head of Miftahur Rabbani Islamic Boarding School, located in Bengkong District, Batam City, Riau Islands.
According to him, the pesantren’s educational foundation is built upon the Panca Jiwa Pondok (Five Core Values of the Boarding School), which consist of sincerity, simplicity, independence, Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah), and openness.
In addition, the pesantren upholds a guiding motto: high-minded, physically healthy, broad-minded, and open-minded. Through these principles, the institution aims to develop students’ intelligence holistically, encompassing intellectual, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.
Currently, Miftahur Rabbani Islamic Boarding School offers three levels of education:
Ula Class (equivalent to elementary level),
Wustha Class (equivalent to junior secondary level), and
Ulya Class (equivalent to senior secondary level).
Across these levels, students focus on mastering various Islamic disciplines such as fiqh, hadith, Arabic language, Qur’anic interpretation (tafsir), tajwid, and handicrafts, while also actively participating in arts and sports activities. Although the pesantren emphasizes religious education, students will ultimately receive equivalency diplomas in accordance with their completed level of study.
“In this era of globalization, the nation needs an educational platform that can produce strong, resilient, high-quality Muslim cadres with an Islamic worldview,” AA Rabbani concluded. “We hope this pesantren can become a source of hope for the community—especially in Batam City—while also supporting government programs in educating and empowering the nation’s children.”
